Are there places that we forget to clean? The short answer is yes. We do our best to keep the floors vacuumed and mopped, visible items are dusted, and toilets are scrubbed. But, as hard as we try to clean everything – there are some common areas and things that we forget… for example things that we use to keep other things clean. Maid Karma has created a list of 7 of those forgotten places.
First on the forget to clean list is the shower curtain. Think about it…When was the last time you cleaned your shower curtain? For most of us that answer will be not in a while or never. It’s something we take for granted. We get in, wash up, water gets on the shower curtain, and we figure that’s enough to clean it. That’s if we even consider it all. Chances are we will buy a new one before we clean the existing curtain.
When buying a shower curtain consider buying one that is machine washable. That way you can just toss it in the washing machine, and it’s more likely to get clean.
This is another of those things that we use to keep other things clean. While most people use dishwashers, there are still people that prefer hand washing their dishes. For those who still use a dish drying rack, it is important to keep it clean. Like the kitchen sink, the dish rack stays wet. So, it’s the perfect place for bacteria to grow.
Unless you are getting ready to paint, you splatter something, or your children write on them -. walls are rarely cleaned. You forget to clean them – or you don’t bother because ‘one day’ you’re going to paint.
When it comes to walls, use a paint that can be cleaned without ruining the finish. And, the best thing to clean them with is just water. If they are heavily stained use a mild cleaner.
Put sheets and covers on the bed and get a good night’s sleep. Sounds good, and also sounds like what we do most with our mattress. Something to consider is mattresses can get pretty nasty over the years, and should be cleaned regularly. Using a mattress cover can help, but it should not be a replacement for actually cleaning the mattress.
Frequent cleaning and changing of bedsheets can also help keep the mattress clean. But for cleaning: Mix 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of water in a spray bottle, lightly mist the mattress, dab with a clean cloth, and allow it to dry.
In this forget to clean, we are going to pick on the broom, but the same holds true for all of your cleaning tools. Think about it… you use the broom, etc.. to clean the floor and other areas. Some of that bacteria and germs stay on the broom. In addition to the brush part of the broom, the handle is also full of germs.
You can also comb the broom or use a vacuum hose to clean the bristles if there’s too much dust or hair to shake off. Once a month, soak the broom in a solution that contains warm water and dish soap. Rinse the broom and let it dry before you use it again
Your ceiling fan falls under the category of out-of-sight-out-of-mind. You remember it when you need to cool off. But, how often do you think about cleaning it? The answer is probably rarely to a realization now that you’ve never cleaned it. If that’s the case, you’re not alone. Hence, why it’s on our list of places people forget to clean.
Rounding out our list is the microwave. They can get pretty nasty, and if you close the door – you don’t see the mess. When you open it, you heat up your food, and vow to clean it before the next time you need to use it. Well, make sure you clean it regularly.
